Ok, so after our successful dissection of Gary, Lucy and friends before the holidays, teacher decided to let us dissect rats this week. How COOL is that! So, Brandon Choy ordered some rats for the whole class. There were 11 of those white mice/rats (whatever u call them, their still rodents). But we only needed 10, so there was one extra (more about 'the rat who lived' later). Anyways each group consisting 3-5 people took 1 rat to prepare them for dissection. I am going to blog about Stuart only because I only took pictures of it. U can blog about his (I am going to refer Stuart as a person now) brothers and sisters too! OK, here goes.

My group members: Me, Hong Joo, Hui Ying, Soh and Tek Soon. BUT Soh decided to ditch us to join another group and as we all know Tek Soon went to Australia to find some hot... *cough*, I mean to attend a wedding dinner. So only left we 3.

OK, when Khang Waei gave me the rat I knew that this particular rat was different from the others. Yes, u probably guessed it (ok, maybe not). Stuart was a fighter. It was the last to pass out from the chloroform we gave him. Finally after 20 mins of trying to make that bast... I mean rat unconscious, it pass out from the chloroform we splashed on him. With the help of Sze Ling and Sy Yiing of course.

So after Stuart passed out, we then make it face the ceiling and then nail him on the board thingy. Then Hong Joo started to slice its fur from the body. The fur was quite hard to pull apart. After that, the intestine and stuff can be seen. YAY! Daphney then took some pictures of Stuart(Daphney, if your reading this, I need those photos). While I was begging nails like an idoit from other groups when the nails was just on the table, Hong Joo and Hui Ying did some more stuff to Stuart. When I came back, Hui Ying did what NO girl should ever do to a MALE living thing. When they started to take the intestine out, Hong Joo then said: "Sh*t, the samll intestine looks like maggi mee wei." (Whoever stops eating Maggi Mee after hearing this, I don't blame you). Then comes other parts... I was amazed to see its heart still beating (faintly la of course) after the pulling out of most of its organs. OK, now blood started coming out of Stuart. Then, RINGGGGG!!! the recess bell rang, so teacher ask us to stop our dissection. But do we listen, NO, my group continued to dissection. Knowing that Stuart is dead, I then took the scissors and cut its neck. Yes, it was cruel, but you should have seen what Sze Ling's group were doing to their rat. They were tearing the skin out off the rat when the bell rang, EVEN cruel right? Then, Hong Joo started to take the head out its body and open the skull in search for its brain. Anyways after that, we decided to take a picture of the headless Stuart with the help of Huey Yann. Finally after all that we(more like Hui Ying) cleaned the apparatus and stuff. Then the whole class left the lab for recess.

I was pretty surprise at the girls because they actually did the dissection without screaming and shouting like psychos. Overall it was a good experience for the whole class and we will be looking forward to kil... EXAMINE these animals again. Now for the pictures. Again, not for the weak-hearted.
